Date Released: 30 March 2017
Due to the increasing visibility of transgender people, there are major conversations nationwide about access, parity and inclusion that are being brought to both the political and social forefronts.
In May 2016, the Department of Education and Justice released their "Dear Colleague Letter on Transgender Students" which clarified guidance to educational institutions regarding transgender students and Title IX.
So while our university has been given guidelines in terms of governmental standards and laws, people may have questions about how to best support our students, and promote a productive academic culture here at CWRU.
At the next UCITE session, Liz Roccoforte, Director of the LGBT Center at CWRU will discuss the wide variety of transgender identities, as well as appropriate, sensitive and inclusive strategies for classroom interaction and support in an educational environment.
Join us on Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. in the Herrick Room, which is on the ground floor of the Allen building (at the corner of Adelbert and Euclid). Pizza lunch and sodas will be provided at this session.
