If you attended UTA training in Fall 2020 or you will attend in Spring 2021, your training will be out of date on July 31, 2024 (at the end of the Summer 2024 term).
If you attended UTA training in Fall 2019 or Spring 2020, your training will be out of date on August 2, 2023 (at the end of the Summer 2023 term).
If you attended UTA training in Fall 2018 or Spring 2019, your training will be out of date on August 3, 2022 (at the end of the Summer 2022 term).
If you attended UTA training in Fall 2017 or Spring 2018, your training will be out of date on August 1, 2021 (at the end of the Summer 2021 term).
If you attended UTA training prior to Fall 2017, your training is out of date. You should complete the Canvas Webinar: Professional Development for UTAs to access updated training, but do not need to attend the Zoom training.
Welcome and Context
Congratulations on being appointed as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (UTA)! This position is an exciting opportunity for you to expand your skill set, while at the same time helping your peers succeed in their courses.
Training is required by the Office of the Provost for all UTAs who will have direct or indirect interaction with students (e.g., recitations leaders, lab instructors/assistants, graders, etc). Detailed information is provided in the CWRU Teaching Assistant Policies.
Please note: if you are a dual-degree student who is enrolled in an undergraduate program of any kind, you are considered an Undergraduate TA and should follow the guidelines for UTA Training.

The UTA training seminar will concentrate on two main areas:
- Inclusion Training. This will involve preparing students to create a welcoming environment for all students at CWRU. This includes working through scenarios or difficult moments that UTAs may face in the classroom.
- Assessment and Academic Integrity. We will familiarize UTAs with best practices in assessment of student work, as well as academic integrity practices and policy. This will include engaging with potential academic integrity scenarios and discussing how best to handle them. We will also provide some instruction regarding assignment planning and classroom management to UTAs who have those duties.

Undergraduate Teaching Assistant training consists of the following THREE steps, all of which must be completed in order to satisfy the UTA training requirement:
STEP 1: Register for UNIV 300 in the Student Information System (SIS) before the add/drop deadline of February 12, 2021.
STEP 2: Self-enroll in and complete the Canvas webinar, “Professional Development for Undergraduate Teaching Assistants”. Registering for UNIV300 does not enroll you in the webinar, so the link to the webinar is HERE.
STEP 3: Register for and participate in a two hour LIVE Zoom session on Sunday, February 14 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. (Eastern U.S. Time Zone) Registering for UNIV 300 or the webinar does not register you for the Zoom session.
Register for the LIVE Zoom session using the Google Form HERE, then use the Zoom link HERE to participate in the session on the 14th.
Undergraduate Teaching Assistant Handbook
In addition to the Canvas course and the LIVE training, the Office of Undergraduate Studies and UCITE have created a handbook containing useful information and ideas for you as you start your journey as an undergraduate teaching assistant. The handbook is not intended to be read from beginning to end. Rather, we encourage UTAs to dip into it as and when needed.

COVID-19 Information for UTAs trained prior to fall 2020
If you are a UTA who attended training in the terms listed below, there is information in Canvas to inform you of the new CWRU policies related to COVID-19. You should have a grade assigned in UNIV 300 for one of the following terms.

- Spring 2018
- Fall 2018
- Spring 2019
- Fall 2019
- Spring 2020
Please complete the Returning TAs: COVID-19 Training Module in Canvas before February 1, 2021.
For UTAs With Out of Date Training:
Please complete the Canvas Webinar: Professional Development for UTAs. This training will take approximately 5 hours to complete, and you MUST complete all modules in order. The webinar will not allow you take the quiz if you skip anything. The new information about CWRU's policies regarding COVID-19 is included in this webinar. You should not enroll in the module listed above for returning TAs.
UTAs unable to participate in the scheduled LIVE training session will need to complete a make-up session. Make-up training sessions will be listed here on January 25, 2021. Contact us for additional information: email@example.com.
