[U]Tech strongly advises Case Western Reserve University Windows users to apply recent Windows updates, including (CVE-2021-34527), to address the PrintNightmare vulnerability (a critical flaw in the Windows Print Spooler service). Get additional information.
Faculty and staff using university-supplied computers in the following areas do not need to take any action, as their updates are managed and this specific update will be applied automatically:
- Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences
- School of Dental Medicine
- School of Law
- UGEN + Executive IT Support
- Weatherhead School of Management
- Thin Client users
To apply Windows updates on your computer, users should navigate to the Start Menu, then to Settings (gear icon), then Update and Security and finally Check for Updates. This update can require a restart after being applied.
For best security, unmanaged and personally owned Windows workstations should be set to auto-update, to ensure critical and routine patches are applied as soon as possible. Additional updates for Windows Server machines will be released by Microsoft shortly.
