Box Storage Limitations Changing; Remove Unneeded Files

Starting this fall, Box is no longer offering unlimited storage under the terms of its contract with Case Western Reserve University. As a result, [U]Tech is taking steps to ensure Box storage used by the university community does not exceed the designated limit and result in either interruption of service or additional charges.

Understanding Box is used widely to share and store documents for ongoing collaboration, please take time to delete or move files that you no longer need to assist the university in staying below the institutional limit. [U]Tech will be contacting and working with users with the highest amounts of Box storage to identify alternative storage options based on individual needs.

Box should be used for a team’s, department’s, school’s or other group’s research or institutional data only. Institutional data is information that should be retained by Case Western Reserve, even after the owner or author leaves the university. Research data includes all material, originally recorded by or for the investigator, commonly accepted in the scientific community as necessary to validate research findings.

Box should no longer be used to store individual or personal data (i.e. data that does not need to be retained after the owner or author is no longer affiliated with the university). Data of this nature should immediately be moved to individual storage, such as Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive. Access the following Box Storage FAQ for more information regarding Box.
