[U]Tech recommends macOS users update their operating system as soon as possible. Users of the Mojave, Catalina and Big Sur macOS operating systems will need to update their systems to address a security vulnerability, using patches recently released by Apple. The security updates available are 2021-002 for Catalina, 2021-003 for Mojave and 11.3 for Big Sur.
[U]Tech recommends users perform a full and current backup of their data prior to upgrading. A restart may be required.
Faculty and staff using managed computers in the UGEN and Executive IT Support area do not need to take any action. This vulnerability cannot be exploited without administrative rights, and the required updates will be deployed automatically.
If you are using a non-managed university computer, or you have a personal computer, check for updates by navigating to System Preferences from the Apple menu and selecting Software Updates. If updates are available, select the Update Now button to install them. View the Apple software update instructions.
[U]Tech encourages all campus community members to keep their operating systems up-to-date on their computers, phones, tablets and other computing devices.
