Recent Windows Update May Cause Printing Issues

University Technology ([U]Tech) informs Windows users that applying recent Windows 10 updates may cause a computer failure when attempting to print.

Specifically, Windows updates KB5000802 and KB5000808 will cause a temporary computer failure when attempting to print to Kyocera, Ricoh and Dymo printer brands (other brands may be impacted as well). [U]Tech recommends to save any work prior to printing, and if affected, users should restart their computer.

Faculty and staff using university-supplied computers in the following areas do not need to take any action, as their updates are managed:

  • Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing
  • Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences
  • School of Dental Medicine
  • School of Law
  • UGEN + Executive IT Support
  • Weatherhead School of Management
  • Thin Client users

Users in areas that do not manage their updates are able to revert an update by navigating to the Control Panel → Programs → Programs and Features → Installed Updates screen, and selecting the update to remove.
