The free version only allows for one device. If users wish to upgrade to the premium version in order to manage passwords on multiple devices, they will have to personally cover the associated cost. Case Western Reserve will no longer pay for the monthly fee.</p> <p>Once the enterprise account held by the university is decommissioned on June 29, [U]Tech will no longer be able to provide LastPass support (such as retrieving or resetting passwords). New site creation already is only available in the New Google Sites interface.</p> <p>On September 1, 2021, all existing active sites in Classic Google Sites will be automatically migrated to New Google Sites platform. All existing inactive sites will be automatically archived. You can also choose to <a href="https://support.google.com/sites/answer/7035197?hl=en#zippy=%2Cconvert-your-site%2Cfind-out-if-you-can-convert-your-classic-site%2Ccopy-your-classic-site-to-new-sites" target="_blank">migrate your existing sites yourself</a> at any time prior to September 1. Learn more about the differences between Classic and New Google Sites in <a href="https://support.google.com/sites/answer/7176163?hl=en&amp;ref_topic=6372873#" target="_blank">Google’s documentation</a>.</p> <p>About the migration process:</p> <ul><li>Only a site owner has the ability to migrate a site.</li> <li>Each new site will only allow one single owner; the owner migrating the site becomes the site owner, and all other previous co-owners will become editors.</li> <li>Attached files will be moved into the Google Drive of the owner initiating the migration and the formerly attached files will change to links to the file in Google Drive.</li> <li>List pages will be converted to an embedded Google Sheet, and the Sheet is stored in the owner’s Google Drive.</li> <li>Comments from Classic Sites are removed, and currently there is no equivalent for comments in the New Google Sites. Google recommends using a third-party service if you need this functionality. During the migration process you will lose all existing comments.</li> </ul><p><a href="https://support.google.com/sites/answer/9014016" target="_blank">Read more about the technical aspects of the migration.</a></p> <p>The conversion tool will let you know of any issues before completing the migration. The tool only copies sites and is non-destructive, and will give you a link to preview the site before completing the migration. The security updates available are 2021-002 for Catalina, 2021-003 for Mojave and 11.3 for Big Sur.</p> <p>[U]Tech recommends users perform a full and current backup of their data prior to upgrading. A restart may be required.</p> <p>Faculty and staff using managed computers in the UGEN and Executive IT Support area do not need to take any action. This vulnerability cannot be exploited without administrative rights, and the required updates will be deployed automatically.</p> <p>If you are using a non-managed university computer, or you have a personal computer, check for updates by navigating to System Preferences from the Apple menu and selecting Software Updates. Mike DeWine and Lt. Gov. Jon Husted, along with other dignitaries, visited the city earlier this month to <a href="https://www.cleveland.com/news/2021/04/as-many-as-2000-households-in-east-cleveland-to-receive-affordable-high-speed-internet-service-through-public-private-partnership.html" target="_blank">announce the project</a>, which is focused on providing a $650,000 broadband expansion in East Cleveland, one of the poorest and least connected cities in the nation.</p> <p>The partnership, prompted by BroadbandOhio, includes Case Western Reserve, Connect, Cuyahoga County, Eaton Corporation, East Cleveland City Schools, GE Lighting-a Savant company, Greater Cleveland Partnership, InnovateOhio, Microsoft, OARnet, PCs for People, University Hospitals and the Urban League of Cleveland.</p> <p>PCs for People will serve as the internet provider, and distribute antennas and modems for residents to have in their homes. Case Western Reserve, Connect, East Cleveland City Schools, OARnet and University Hospitals will assist with the technical infrastructure.</p> <p>"This is a great example of how [U]Tech’s strong presence in the region and strength in network engineering provide a very valuable benefit to the local community," said Roger Bielefeld, assistant vice president of Research Computing and Infrastructure Services.</p> <p>From [U]Tech, Director of Network Engineering and Unified Communications Dan Matthews, Project Director Dennis Risen and Network Engineer Kevin Chan helped facilitate a fiber-optic (broadband) connection between the OARnet network equipment in Cedar Avenue Service Center and University Hospitals Lakeside Building—ultimately providing access to buildings where infrastructure necessary for the project is placed. UH will extend the link to an antenna on the roof of Lerner Tower, permitting communication with a similar antenna at Shaw High School in East Cleveland. These efforts will increase service to the areas of the pilot program.</p> <p>"For this project, CWRU and [U]Tech played a technically minor, yet logistically critical, role in bridging the gap between OARnet and University Hospitals," said Matthews, project organizer and point person on behalf of [U]Tech. "We have a great relationship and history with both organizations and in this case, we were able to literally bring them together on behalf of PCs for People and for the benefit of the community of East Cleveland."</p> <p>The project will connect more than 1,000 households in its first phase, with plans to scale up access to 2,000 households. East Cleveland households will pay $15 a month for internet speeds of 50 Mbps for download and 10 Mpbs for upload (twice the minimum federal definition of high-speed internet). The scammers claim they have “information about your tax refund payment” and urge you to click on their phishing link. Subjects may include “Recalculation of your tax refund payment” or “Tax Refund Payment,” or similar messaging about tax refunds.</p> <p>Once on the site, they will ask for your personal information, such as name, Social Security Number (SSN), date of birth and other personal information. They can then sell that information or use it for identity theft (including filing taxes under your name to steal your tax refund).</p> <p>However, the <strong>IRS will never contact you first by email</strong>. If they need to contact you, a mailed letter will be the first form of outreach. You can also choose to <a href="https://support.google.com/sites/answer/7035197?hl=en#zippy=%2Cconvert-your-site%2Cfind-out-if-you-can-convert-your-classic-site%2Ccopy-your-classic-site-to-new-sites" target="_blank">migrate your existing sites yourself</a> at any time prior to September 1. Since every Zoom meeting requires a host, an alternative host is assigned the role of host when the creator of the meeting is unable to attend.</p> <p>Recently, Zoom updated the behavior for the alternative host assignment. In the event an alternative host joins before the meeting creator, they will only be assigned host until the creator joins. At that time, the alternative host status will automatically change to co-host. This ensures the creator maintains control of the meeting.</p> <p>Previously, if an alternative host joined a meeting before the creator, they were assigned the host role while the meeting creator was given the co-host role.</p> <p>The alternative host function is a great feature for recurring events, including classes or staff meetings. By adding a TA or colleague as an alternative host, classes or meetings can be held without interruption.
