Service Description

An Internet Protocol (IP) Address is the unique network identifier of a particular computer or other network device. It is assigned - and changes - each time a computer or device connects to the CWRU network.

A Static IP Address can be requested for certain machines, typically servers, that need to have their IP Address remain static (unchanged) each time they connect to the network.

NOTE: Static IP Addresses are assigned by building and will only work if the system is connected to a faceplate in the building listed on the request form.

Benefits

Certain machines need to have their IP Address remain static or unchanged for particular uses.

Technical Details

Static IPs will only work if the system is connected to a faceplate in the building listed in the request form.

If you move a system to a different building (or another floor in certain buildings), the static IP will be considered invalid and will no longer work for that system. You will need to release the old and request a new Static IP Address before it will work in the new location.

Customers

Static IP Addresses are available to CWRU faculty and staff.
