The generosity of Case Western Reserve’s donor family empowers our students to think beyond the possible.

In 2021, more than 85% of undergraduates received some type of financial aid or scholarship support. Gifts from alumni and friends help reduce students’ financial burden, allowing them to focus more time and energy on pushing boundaries in their field of study and making an impact on their community.

Faculty mentorship, interactive learning opportunities and interdisciplinary collaboration are core elements of the Case Western Reserve experience. Your support allows the university to provide equitable access to the brightest students, regardless of financial circumstances.

Fuel scholarships

From their undergraduate degrees to postdoctoral studies, your generosity enables students from all backgrounds to reap the benefits of a Case Western Reserve education. Make a difference for today’s Spartans with your gift for student scholarships.

The scholarships I’ve received are a blessing. My CWRU aid has opened a lot of doors I would otherwise not have been able to pass through."

Support the Student Emergency Fund

Case Western Reserve’s Student Emergency Fund was established in 2019 thanks to a generous gift from university trustee Vincent Gaudiani (MED ’73) and his wife, Candace.

The fund, which is entirely separate from scholarship support and financial aid packages, is designed to assist students who encounter unforeseen financial emergencies or events that would otherwise prevent them from continuing their CWRU education.

“There’s no amount of money that’s trivial if you’re struggling financially,” said Vincent Gaudiani, who experienced his own financial difficulties while in college. “We didn’t want students who have talent to have to give up on their education over that.”

Join the alumni, faculty, parents and friends who continue to sustain this vital student resource.

Barbara R. Snyder Distinguished Scholars

Throughout her 13-year tenure as president, Barbara R. Snyder emphasized her commitment to ensuring qualified students could afford a Case Western Reserve education.

Annual scholarship support for undergraduates more than doubled during her presidency—from $61.5 million in 2007–08 to over $134 million in 2020–21. So unwavering was her focus that scholarships became one of the cornerstones of the Forward Thinking capital campaign, which ultimately raised more than $250 million for student support. In 2016, the university moved to a financial aid model where the university met 100% of the demonstrated financial need of each admitted student, a measure that improved the diversity of incoming classes.

In the fall of 2021, in celebration of her transformative presidency, trustees, alumni and friends donated more than $37.6 million in support of scholarships and the performing arts. As part of this effort, 15 friends of the university came together to create the Barbara R. Snyder Distinguished Scholarships—with the overwhelming majority supporting first-year undergraduates with demonstrated financial need.

Other gifts have established scholarships for graduate and professional students in specific disciplines.

Below are some of the generous donors of this initial support; three of them have chosen to remain anonymous.
