THE LITERARY LANDSCAPE OF ISAAC BASHEVIS SINGER (IN-PERSON)

Instructor(s)
Sarah Pogell
Professor of English, Cuyahoga Community College
Date
Wednesdays, August 7-28
Time
10:00AM to 11:30AM ET

Rife with themes of transcendence and the mundane – often without a comforting resolution between the two, Singer’s stories explore the morality and immorality of “what it’s like to decide to both see and not see the darkness,” as one critic aptly put it. In this course, we will read a sampling of Singer’s beloved short stories and a short novel from his literary heyday in the 1960s and 70s, as well as a smattering of his nonfiction – all translated into English by Singer and his enthusiastic collaborators.
