Road Closures
Update as of Sept. 30: Because the process of disassembling fences and disconnecting bike racks has taken longer than expected, several debate-related road closures will continue through Thursday, Oct. 1.
They are:
- Chester Avenue between E. 89th and E. 101st Streets remains closed in both directions.
- Euclid Avenue between E. 89th and E. 105th Streets remains closed in both directions.
- E. 90th, E. 93rd, E. 96th and E. 100th Streets between Euclid and Chester Avenues remain closed in both directions.
- All RTA reroutes—#7, #9, #32, #48-48A and HealthLine lines—will remain in place. Visit the RTA website for more information.

Below is information the City of Cleveland released Sept. 22 regarding street and road closures.
Friday, Sept. 25
Beginning Friday, Sept. 25, the following road closures will begin:
- Chester Ave. between E. 89th St. to E. 101st St.
- Carrie Ct. between E. 90th St. to E. 93rd St.
- E. 97th St. north to Logan Ct.
Friday, Sept. 25 after 6 p.m.
Starting Friday, Sept. 25, after evening rush hour (6 p.m.), the following road closures with limited access will be in effect:
- Euclid Ave. between E. 89th St. to E. 105th St.
- E. 90th St. between Chester Ave. and Euclid Ave.
- E. 102nd St., E. 100th St., E. 96th St. and E. 90th St. all north of Carnegie Ave.
Friday, Sept. 25 to Thursday, Oct. 1
Below are traffic closures and detours that are scheduled from 7 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, to Thursday, Oct. 1, at 6 p.m. Prior to the closure, Cleveland Clinic Police will handle intermittent closures during the
installation phase of security fencing and barriers:
- Signage will be posted for eastbound travelers on Chester Ave. and Euclid Ave. that only local access will be permitted on those streets between E. 55th St. and E. 89th St. The posted detour will route traffic to Carnegie Ave.
- Chester Ave. and Euclid Ave. eastbound will be closed at E. 89th St., where traffic must travel either north or south on E. 89th St.
- Traffic southbound on E. 90th St. from Hough Ave. will be local access only and the road will be closed approximately 100 feet north of Chester Ave.
- Traffic southbound on E. 93rd St. from Hough Ave. will be local access only and the road will be closed approximately 100 feet north of Chester Ave.
- Traffic southbound on E. 97th St. from Lamont will be local access only and the road will be closed after the intersection of Logan Ct. prior to reaching Chester Ave.
- Traffic westbound on Chester Ave. will encounter a local access only closure at E. 105th St. and Chester Ave.
- Local access traffic westbound on Chester Ave. from E. 105th Street must travel either north or south on E. 101st St. Southbound traffic on E. 101st St. is local access only to businesses and establishments in the area prior to
reaching Euclid Ave., where the road will be closed to all traffic.
- E. 90th St. traveling northbound from Carnegie will be Clinic patient access only and will be closed approximately 100 feet south of Euclid Ave.
- Traveling northbound on E. 96th St. or E. 100th St. from Carnegie Ave. will be Clinic patient access only. Travel is permitted past E. Mall Drive and W. Mall Drive and the roads will both be closed approximately 50 feet north of
W. Mall Drive.
- Northbound traffic on E. 102nd St. from Carnegie Ave. will be closed.
- Traveling westbound on Euclid Ave., the road will be closed at E. 105th St.
- Driveway onto the Cleveland Clinic Campus from E. 105th St. located between Euclid and Carnegie will be closed.
- The detour for westbound traffic from E. 105th St. on both Euclid Ave. and Chester Ave. will be westbound on Carnegie Ave.
Parking Changes
Health Education Campus Garage Access
As part of security preparations for the Sept. 29 Presidential Debate at the Health Education Campus, the JJ garage will be closed from 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, through Wednesday, Sept. 30.
Normal operations are expected to resume Thursday, Oct. 1.
During this time, JJ permit-holders may park in the West Campus parking lot, located at the intersection of Ansel Road and Mt. Sinai Drive. The Health Education Campus Shuttle route will include stops at that lot.
Main Campus Garage Access
Those with parking permits who are working on campus Tuesday may use the following university parking garages: 29, 46, 53 and 55. To enter, pull a ticket; when leaving, remind the attendant that Tuesday is a debate parking exception day where those who have parking permits (you can point to your hang tag) can use university garages. For Lot 46 (on the northeast edge of campus adjacent to DiSanto field), press the buzzer to ring the attendant.
Street Parking
Those who park on streets are encouraged to make alternative arrangements on the day of the debate.
As part of its security preparations for the Presidential Debate, on Sept. 26, the City of Cleveland announced multiple street parking restrictions for Sept. 28-29. Several of those restrictions include streets within and close to our main campus, as well as around the Health Education Campus.
These restrictions take effect at 6 a.m. Monday, and end at 6 a.m. Wednesday. The university will continue to provide updates as they become available.
