The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Case Western Reserve University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant or associate professor level, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Appointments will be considered for starting dates as early as July 1, 2025.
We seek applicants with research focus on processing, properties, or (micro-) characterization, or computational methods of materials that support at least one area of environmental-, resource‑, or process sustainability or circular economy. Examples include materials for sustainable manufacturing, science of materials reliability and predictability of materials performance, and AI (artificial intelligence) for science and data stewardship of materials. The successful applicant is expected to establish an independent research program, foster meaningful collaborations involving departmental, cross-departmental, and university research strengths, and contribute to impactful research with national and international recognition. Further, the candidate is expected to teach and contribute to professional and university service at all levels.
Applicants must have a PhD in materials science or a related field and must hold potential for research leadership, interdisciplinary research, grant funding, teaching excellence, and service contributions. Candidates must demonstrate a stellar track-record of PhD and/or postdoctoral research, evidenced through significant and impactful publications in prominent journals. Candidates seeking positions at the assistant-professor level should demonstrate potential for excellence in innovative research. Candidates seeking positions at the associate-professor level should have established a significant research reputation nationally and possess a record of extramural funding.
