Instructor - Department of Pathology

The Department of Pathology at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) is recruiting for two full-time faculty positions at the level of Instructor to expand its vibrant research program in neurodegenerative diseases. Candidates must have outstanding research qualifications in the area of neurodegeneration with a focus in Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease or other age-related neurodegenerative diseases. The successful candidate must hold a PhD in biology, or other disciplines related to cell or molecular biology and have competitive research qualifications with strong publications and development of plans that indicate potential for external grant funding in the near future. The candidate should have at least 5 years of experience in neuroscience and RNA biology, particularly in the area of neurodegeneration using cell and animal models. Candidates should be proficient in mouse behavioral tests (memory function, motor function and anxiety/depression-like tests), rodent brain stereotactic injection, RNA/DNA techniques, histology techniques, protein chemistry, immunocytochemistry, lentivirus/AAV production, general cell and molecular biology techniques and imaging techniques (confocal microscopy, electron microscopy and fluorescence). Applicants must also have experience working with multiple models of neurodegenerative diseases such as mouse models for Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. We especially encourage applicants who have training and/or experience in mitochondrial function and mRNA metabolism.

The individual chosen for this position will be encouraged to develop an external research funding to support his or her research, will be expected to collaborate with members of the Department in their own research activities to the extent that this is beneficial to the individual and the existing faculty, and will be expected to participate in academic and service functions of the Department.

Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, CV, statement of research interests, a diversity and equity statement (see below), and names of 3 referees via Interfolio at: http://apply.interfolio.com/127207. Diversity and equity statement: Applicants are asked to submit a statement (1/2 page) explaining how their research, teaching, and/or service have or will contribute to diversity, equity and inclusion within their scholarly field(s) and/or how their individual and/or collaborative efforts have or will promote structural justice inside and outside institutions of higher learning. This statement should also reflect upon ways in which the candidate’s continued efforts will foster a culture of diversity, pluralism, and individual differences at CWRU into the future.

CWRU strives to maintain a diverse and inclusive work environment. All applicants are protected under Federal law from discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age and genetics.
