This lectureship series was founded in 2001 with a generous gift from Susie Gharib, the co-anchor of "Nightly Business Report" on PBS. A respected broadcast and print financial journalist, Gharib is a graduate ('72) of Case Western Reserve University.
Following her graduation from Case she worked as a reporter for the Cleveland Plain Dealer. While working on a Master of International Affairs at Columbia University, Gharib served as a news reporter for Newsweek and the Associated Press. After receiving her degree, Gharib's business journalist career began at Fortune. She is among a handful of financial journalists to initiate business news coverage on television. She is now one of broadcast journalism's most recognized business news anchors. She worked for ESPN, WABC-TV in New York, NBC, and CNBC before joining "Nightly Business Report" in 1998. Gharib is known for her incisive interviews with business leaders from corporate America, Wall Street, and Washington. She has been named one of the nation's 100 most influential business journalists by the editors of TJFR, an industry publication. She is also the recipient of the Gracie Allen award as the top anchorwoman of the year in 2001.
