Jeptha H. Wade II

Responsibility for much of the University Circle blueprint belongs to Cleveland developer and philanthropist Jeptha H. Wade II.

Wade’s grandfather, Jeptha Homer Wade, founder of Western Union, donated 63 acres of land to Cleveland to serve as the home of a gallery that would later become the Cleveland Museum of Art. The younger Wade would help shape the University Circle neighborhood and create a university campus setting with significant green space.
