SAGES

The Seminar Approach to General Education and Scholarship (SAGES) sequence formed the undergraduate curriculum foundation for Case Western Reserve University students from 2003 to 2023. The sequence emphasized competency in writing fundamentals and provided an alternative to conventional first-year English classes through an emphasis on research and writing.

The approach was replaced in the fall of 2023 by the Unified General Education Requirements (UGER), which maintains SAGES themes such as critical thinking, exposure to diversity and communication. UGER, however, provides more elective options, and courses once tied to the SAGES program were moved into their corresponding academic departments.
