About the Program

If you’re interested in a career as a data analyst, business technology analyst or another role in applied data and information, the Master of Engineering with Applied Data Science program at Case Western Reserve University can help you achieve your goals.

Offered through our renowned Case School of Engineering, this program combines a focus on data science with associated approaches to statistical and machine learning and artificial intelligence to prepare you to excel in your field as you make meaningful contributions to society. 

The six- to nine-semester program is led by expert faculty who have helped shape the in-demand skills you’ll need. They’ll guide you to success as an engineering professional or even a corporate leader within this ever-growing field, and, by the time you graduate, prepare you to address the increasingly wide range of technical, managerial, financial and interpersonal challenges this global industry base presents. 

What to Expect

The Master of Engineering with Applied Data Science program—administered through the university's Department of Materials Science and Engineering —expands on the curriculum found within our Master of Engineering program and augments it with robust, graduate-level applied data science coursework. 

Throughout the 30-credit-hour program, you'll discover how engineering is practiced within contemporary industries as you complete 18 credit hours of online core courses, including: 

  • Leadership and Interpersonal Skills
  • Introduction to Business for Engineers
  • Product and Process Design and Implementation
  • Applied Engineering Statistics
  • Engineering Economics and Financial Analysis 
  • Master of Engineering Capstone Project 

Your remaining 12 credit hours will focus on applied data science courses on topics such as data visualization and analytics, applied data science research and more, which you can complete online or in person.

Beyond the Classroom

As a student in our program, you can explore the world while advancing your studies by studying abroad or conducting hands-on research at one of Case School of Engineering's many facilities, such as the Center for Engineering Action and the Solar Durability and Lifetime Extension Center. Admission Requirements

  • Online application, including personal statement/essay
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a STEM field from an accredited institution (either already complete, or will be complete before you enroll) 
  • $50 application fee
  • Current resume/CV
  • Unofficial transcripts
  • Test scores for GMAT or GRE (waiver available)
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • International applicants: Minimum 90 TOEFL, 7.0 IELTS, or 61 Pearson Academic required (waiver available)
