About the Program

Available in-person and online, our master's program in mechanical engineering offers a rigorous project- and problem-oriented curriculum taught by highly regarded faculty and researchers. Immerse yourself in biologically inspired robotics or build expertise in computational solid mechanics. With more than 140 years of academic excellence, the Case School of Engineering provides support, facilities and inspiration for the next generation of engineering leaders. 

What to Expect

All tracks require 30 credit hours of graduate-level course work, which you can tailor to fit your area of interest. You can complete your degree in as few as three semesters by choosing coursework only or a project. The research track can typically be completed in two years. Five specializations are offered:

  • Biomechanics
  • Dynamical Systems and Control
  • Manufacturing and Data Sciences
  • Fluids and Thermal Sciences
  • Solid Mechanics

Beyond the Classroom

Take advantage of the longstanding research collaborations with the departments of Biology, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Materials Science and Engineering at Case Western Reserve and the Department of Orthopaedics in Case Western Reserve’s School of Medicine to immerse yourself in research of your choosing and build a solid network of peers in the field. The Department of Mechanical Engineering also offers research positions and assistantships to cover tuition costs and support thesis research.
