About the Program

Improve your chances of admission into medical school, dental school or another professional program with our flexible master’s degree in medical physiology. Located in the health care hub of Cleveland, Ohio—home of the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals, MetroHealth and the Louis Stokes Veterans Affair Medical Center—we’ve designed our program to prepare you for a lifelong career in the medical and healthcare professions, all while learning in a way that works best for your lifestyle. Join as a full- or part-time student; start in the spring, summer or fall semester; take classes on campus, online or a hybrid format; and accelerate or decelerate the pace of your studies as you go. As part of a top-25 medical school in a tier-1 research university, we have the resources to help you achieve success in your academic and career pursuits.

What to Expect

Over the course of 32 credit hours, we’ll prepare you for the intensity of professional school. You’ll gain a solid medical foundation from classes in medical physiology, translational physiology, the physiological basis of disease and clinical reasoning. Plus, you’ll engage with your fellow students in a collaborative learning community and share in each other's successes.

In the classroom, our faculty will guide you through the rigorous curriculum; outside the classroom, our advisors and staff will work with you to plan your career goals. We'll help you get ready to apply to professional school through individualized advising and feedback, as well as a variety of events—including a retreat dedicated to the topic.

Throughout the course of the program, not only did my knowledge base grow, I also developed a wealth of skills that helped me to achieve academically and professionally. These skills have become invaluable to me as a student doctor at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

Beyond the Classroom

With four major health centers in the city, you’ll have ample opportunities to engage in clinical and shadowing experiences or participate in medical research with our affiliates. What’s more, you’ll find hundreds of volunteer opportunities at institutions such as the Ronald McDonald House, Circle Health Services and American Heart Association.

Looking to interact with your peers outside of class? The department sponsors an annual summer picnic, a welcome reception for incoming students, a Cleveland Indians baseball game outing, a winter holiday party and a graduation reception.
