Participate in one of Case Western Reserve University’s Pre-Orientation Adventures—two-and-a-half-day small-group experiences open to incoming first-year students—Aug. 16−18. Students participating in Pre-Orientation Adventures will move into their fall residence hall assignments between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15 and join other participants that night for a welcome dinner in the Thwing Center Ballroom from 6 to 8 p.m.

Pre-Orientation Adventures are fee-based, and cost $230. The fee includes food, accommodations, activities, supplies and transportation to and from campus.

Below is a complete listing of the Adventures available for 2013. Registration for Pre-Orientation Adventures will occur on your New Student Checklist beginning June 1 and ending on July 1.

	Green! NEW in 2013! Welcome to a Green Cleveland! If you're interested in making new friends, exploring your new city, and completely immersing yourself in Cleveland's efforts to become a Green City on a Blue Lake, this Adventure is for you. This is your chance to get outside, explore, and volunteer at a few of Cleveland's best sustainability success stories. The Green Adventure will allow you to meet local sustainability leaders, learn more about Cleveland's environment, and participate in sustainability service projects at local farms, national parks and Lake Erie's Beaches. This Adventure is co-sponsored by Case Western Reserve's Office of Sustainability. Explore a few of Cleveland's best outdoor attractions including Lake Erie and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park Volunteer at two local farms and learn about the local food you'll eat at the CWRU dining halls Engage with the community and business leaders that are putting Cleveland and Sustainability on the map!
	Yesteryear! NEW in 2013! Discover the rich history of University Circle and the Greater Cleveland area in this historical-based Adventure. Learn all about your new home through interactive faculty-led seminars and activities that connect you with the roots of our city. Visit the Western Reserve Historical Society, right in CWRU's backyard, and check out the historic Lakeview Cemetery. Participate in faculty-led seminars and tours as you discover the history of CWRU and University Circle. Learn about Cleveland's historic neighborhoods as you enjoy a bicycle tour and an evening complete progressive dinner with your new friends!
	Energy! NEW in 2013! Are you interested in alternative energy, green buildings and sustainable businesses? Want to learn more about how Sustainable Cleveland 2019 is working to transform our city into a sustainability innovation hot spot? This is your opportunity to become immersed in Cleveland's Year of Advanced and Renewable Energy. There are really cool energy transformations coming to the region that offer opportunities to learn, experiment, and engage. We'll plug you in to meet this movement's leaders, and also learn about cutting edge innovations in green building, sustainable business, and Biomimicry. You'll also have the opportunity to connect with new friends, and explore a few of Cleveland's best outdoor attractions like Lake Erie! This Adventure is co-sponsored by Case Western Reserve's Office of Sustainability. Tour local state-of-art, high-performance green buildings, renewable energy installations and other cool sustainability sites Connect with business owners that have embedded sustainability into their business model Learn how you can help transform Cleveland into a Green City on a Blue Lake Engage with the community and business leaders that are putting Cleveland and Sustainability on the map!
	Creates! NEW in 2013! If you are into learning more about the arts and entertainment scene in the greater Cleveland area, then this interactive Adventure is for you! University Circle, the home of Case Western Reserve University, is touted as the hub of arts and culture due to its concentration of museums, culture, and rich history. So, jump right in and discover local museums, get hands-on with arts workshops, and network with new students, upperclass mentors, and staff! Visit world-renowned museums right in CWRU's backyard! Create and experience during hands-on workshops! See the sights, stars, and stages of Cleveland as you experience Playhouse Square, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, The Christmas Story House, and more!
	Leads! Leads is designed to kick start your college journey by introducing you to a supportive community of student leaders and upper-class mentors who want you to have a successful transition to our campus community. Your experience doesn't end when we come back to campus because participants will continue receiving support and guidance through participation in the Emerging Leaders Program, a series of workshops designed to introduce you to university administrators and staff who value you and your potential to profoundly impact our campus community. This Adventure is co-sponsored by Case Western Reserve's Office of Student Activities and Leadership. Have fun while participating in indoor activities, a high ropes course and other outdoor initiatives designed to help you make meaningful connections to other Leads! participants and upper class adventure leaders Learn about yourself, your talents and how you can capitalize on your strengths in your academics and involvement through completing the nationally used Clifton Strengths Finder Gain resources on how to manage your time, balance academics & involvement and transition from high school to collegiate leadership Be paired with an upper-class student mentor and a staff coach who will work individually with you to utilize your talents and skills both in and out of the classroom Receive continued support and skill building throughout the fall semester through participation in the Emerging Leaders Program
	Serves! Join in a trip co-sponsored by Case Western Reserve's Center for Civic Engagement and Learning. Learn about the city of Cleveland while giving back to the community through a variety of service opportunities. Participants will get the chance to take part in both large- and small-group service projects, learn about campus organizations and local service-learning projects to work with during the school year, and discover the city at night through fun social activities. 	Treks! Take a trip to beautiful Ohiopyle State Park in Fayette County, Penn.—19,000 acres of rugged natural beauty that serves as the gateway to the Laurel Mountains. The focal point of the area is the Youghiogheny River Gorge (pronounced yaw-ki-gay-nee), which cuts through the heart of the park for nearly 14 miles. The Yough provides some of the best whitewater rafting in the eastern United States. Hike and swim while exploring the park and getting to know your fellow Treks Adventurers Camp under the stars in platform tents, and gather around the campfire to cook your own meals. Experience the power of the Yough firsthand with a day of whitewater rafting.
	Explores! Explores will be a true adventure in your new city! Find out about all Cleveland has to offer, and get to know some of your classmates in the process. This is your opportunity to take a couple days to orient yourself to the area before getting wrapped up in your classes for the semester. Your friends will quickly recognize you as an expert on having fun in Cleveland after orientation. Learn about the area's history. Visit historic and vibrant landmarks and learn about cool things to do. Learn how the city is changing and the transformation occurring in our own University Circle area. Become a super-savvy user of the RTA, the local public transportation system.
	Thrills! Do rollercoasters and wave pools get your blood pumping? Looking to learn about the best places to let off some steam during the school year? Then take an adventure with Thrills! Visit some of our area's most sought after attractions with a group of your classmates, and have plenty of time to make some new friends while you are there. Scope out the best amusement park, water park and entertainment in the area before the end of summer. Ride the rollercoasters at Cedar Point, Northern Ohio's awesome amusement park. Cool off at Wildwater Kingdom, a huge water park with e≠verything from extreme water slides to a lazy river. Explore some of Cleveland's more relaxing attractions while getting to know your fellow adventurers.
	Eats! Want to get a taste of University Circle and Cleveland before getting wrapped up in classes? The Eats Adventure is just for you! You will visit some of the most delicious and well-known eateries in the area while learning about Cleveland's cultural diversity and history. After orientation, you will be known among your friends for your culinary prowess and knowledge of the Cleveland area. This Adventure is co-sponsored by Case Western Reserve's Office of Multicultural Affairs. Learn about the area's history. Visit historic and vibrant landmarks and learn about cool things to do. Learn how the city is changing and the transformation occurring in our own University Circle area. Become a super-savvy user of the RTA, the local public transportation system.
