CMS Process

How do I move my site into the CMS?

When moving your site into Drupal, we follow a defined process. But, as with anything, this process may not fit your needs—or it may be tweaked and refined along the way.

Below, we have outlined basic steps for moving existing sites into the content management system as well as how to apply for a brand-new site.

  1. Fill out our contact form.
  2. A representative from University Marketing and Communications (UMC) will contact you to set up an initial kickoff meeting and provide you with a “content rubric” to begin reviewing your website and determine areas in which you need to improve.
  3. UMC will begin reviewing your site content to see what can be deleted, archived or revised, as well as make any suggestions.
  4. At the kickoff meeting, we will discuss:
    • Site goals
    • Personnel resources (to migrate your website, edit your content, maintain the site, etc.)
    • Technical requirements
    • Projected timeline
    • Training
    • Any special needs your unit may have
  5. UMC and the client will work together to determine if new content or site structure is necessary
  6. UMC and the client will begin a coordinated migration of your website, based on what was determined in step 5.
  7. UMC will hold training sessions with end users and web developers on how to properly, effectively and efficiently use the CMS.
  8. Before UMC provides final approval, UMC and unit representatives will test the site to uncover any issues. The unit (and/or UMC, depending on the issue) is responsible for fixing most issues.
  9. [U]Tech will push the site live to the public.
  10. Unit representatives will have full control and responsibility over their site’s content, and will be expected to make regular updates to the site.
