The largest open-access makerspace and innovation center at any university in the world, Case Western Reserve University’s seven-story Sears think[box] is an inventor's and entrepreneur’s playground where your ideas percolate, partnerships form and business concepts brew.
It's a hub of innovation and entrepreneurship, a place that brings together problem-solvers from across academic disciplines (engineers, doctors, anthropologists, business leaders....) to create new products, further their research and launch new businesses and products into the marketplace.
For example, consider the team that recently looked to think[box] to launch Path Robotics, a company headed by brothers Alex and Andrew Lonsberry. Alex earned his bachelors and masters in mechanical engineering at our Case School of Engineering; both brothers are now pursuing PhDs at CWRU. Their smart welding system uses proprietary image processing techniques to find and weld seams and employs artificial intelligence to learn on the job. The company has attracted $71 million in investment in fewer than three years, making it one of the most successful student startups ever to launch from Case Western Reserve.
