Papers exploring constructions of masculinity in either late-nineteenth or late-twentieth century America. Two panels will be formed with an eye to comparing these periods. We welcome a variety of disciplinary and theoretical approaches and encourage examinations of a variety of media (books, cinema, digital texts, etc.). Topics for treatment might include (though are not limited to) masculinity in relation to nostalgia, professionalization, technology, normative feminity, popular culture, violence, or nationalism.
