Just as some of the federation's growing pains began to ease, a fire torched the interior of historic Adelbert Hall in 1991. Named for the eldest son of Amasa Stone, the building was once home to Adelbert College of Western Reserve University and now houses Case Western Reserve University administration.
President Agnar Pytte oversaw a $12.4 million restoration of the oldest building on campus, which was completed in 1993. While the cause of the fire was never determined, the most likely causes were faults in the attic’s electrical wiring. No one was injured in the fire.
