Presiding over Western Reserve College from 1871 to 1886, Carroll Cutler was at the helm through the institution’s move from Hudson, Ohio, to Cleveland, and was responsible for the admission of women at Western Reserve on equal terms with men.
In his support for the education of women, Cutler would say in his inaugural address, “if any woman thirsting for knowledge should seek it at this fountain, she should not be refused.”
