Cordelia Ford and Liberty E. Holden

Case Western Reserve University’s legacy traces in part to a 43-acre parcel of land sold in 1881 at a discount to the community from city leaders and landowners Cordelia Ford and Liberty E. Holden.

A provision in a gift from Cleveland industrialist Amasa Stone specified that Western Reserve College and Case School of Applied Science should be situated next to each other, and the specification led to the campus’s move from Hudson to Cleveland.
