Frank R. “Count” Van Horn

Known as the “Father of Case [School of Applied Science] Athletics,” Frank R. Van Horn taught geology and mineralogy at the school and streamlined the finances of its athletic program.

He would become president of the Case Athletic Association and serve in this role for 26 years, paying off significant debts for his employer, adding a new football field and saving Case’s increasingly costly football program from elimination through wide-ranging improvements.
