John S. Millis

Students and educators saw a new medical curriculum take shape under the direction of Western Reserve University’s final president. From 1949 to 1967, John S. Millis helped position the medical school as a leader in its discipline; the University Medical Center Campaign began in 1962 and generated more than $76 million in fundraising to expand and improve buildings for the schools of medicine, dentistry and nursing and affiliates.

Millis also led increased collaboration with Case Institute of Technology and was an advocate for the federation of the two institutions. Millis Hall is named in his honor
