Diplomat Mohamed Ibn Chambas has committed himself to international civil service and global peacekeeping. He was one of the mediators behind the Accra Comprehensive Peace Agreement, which ended the Liberian Civil War, and later named the joint special representative for Darfur and head of the United Nations–African Union Mission in Darfur.
He retired from the UN in 2021, and today serves the African Union as high representative for Silencing the Guns, an African peace and security initiative. Chambas received the Distinguished Alumni Award from The Alumni Association of Case Western Reserve University in 2023.
