Richard Thaler, who earned his undergraduate degree in economics from Adelbert College, earned the 2017 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for his contributions to the field of behavioral economics. Specifically, his work has focused on the roles that limited rationality, social preferences and lack of self-control play in economic decision-making. (Thaler became a household name after his cameo in the Oscar-winning film The Big Short, which traced the origins of the 2008 financial crisis.)
