A clinical affiliate of CWRU School of Medicine since 1895, University Hospitals was the first multi-hospital system in Northeast Ohio. It originated from the 1868 founding of Wilson Street Hospital, later renamed Lakeside Hospital, by prominent parishioners of the Presbyterian Old Stone Church.
The 1925 merger of Lakeside Hospital, Babies and Children’s Hospital, Maternity Home, and Rainbow Hospital for Crippled and Convalescent Children formed University Hospitals of Cleveland and launched many building projects across University Circle.
Many of the university’s medical and nursing students complete their clinical training across the network, which now consists of 18 hospitals.
