Welcome to the Crespo Group Page!

The research in Professor Crespo's group is focused on unraveling the mechanistic aspects of reaction processes that are relevant to photochemistry, photobiology, and environmental chemistry. Our chief aim is to understand these processes at the molecular level, and we employ a wide range of cutting-edge techniques such as molecular synthesis, cellular photobiology, advanced photochemical techniques, steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopy, and computational methods.

Our team is dedicated to producing specific knowledge about the nuclear and electronic factors that control the light-induced chemistry of molecules, with the ultimate goal of developing novel applications such as photomedicines, phototheranostics, and photodynamic therapeutic materials for the treatment of cancer cells, energy harvesting and conversion, environmental remediation, and photonic materials.

The research endeavors in Prof. Crespo's group are both multi- and interdisciplinary, covering diverse areas of chemistry. Our team is focused on exposing undergraduate and graduate students, as well as postdoctoral associates, to innovative research and state-of-the-art technologies. These research experiences help them integrate into mainstream scientific activities and the global enterprise.

Diversity & Inclusion Statement: The Crespo Research Group celebrates our individualities in race, ethnicity, gender, country of origin, sexual orientation, and gender identity as a means to learn from one another as we work collectively to train the next generation of investigators, educators, and professionals, solve difficult research problems, and improve the understanding of chemistry and related fields.
