The School of Law is proud to announce that third-year law student Anna Glavaš has been selected as a recipient of the 2025 Law360 Distinguished Legal Writing Award, presented by the Burton Awards in association with the Library of Congress. Glavaš is among an elite group of fifteen winners chosen from law schools across the country for their excellence in legal writing.
The Burton Awards, now in its 26th year, is a national, non-profit program that recognizes the finest legal writers in the country. Sponsored by Law360, the American Bar Association and Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, the program is widely regarded as one of the highest honors for legal writing.

Glavaš' award-winning Note, published in Case Western Reserve Law Review, examines the proliferation of state-level infringements on the human rights and dignity of immigrants. She argues that challenging increasingly animus-based immigration laws at the state level requires a dual constitutional approach, leveraging both the Supremacy Clause and the Dormant Commerce Clause.

Reflecting on her legal writing journey, Glavaš credits her LLEAP courses and Law Review experience for shaping her growth as a writer.

"Looking back on how daunting legal writing felt as a 1L, I credit my growth to the professors who challenged, guided and supported me along the way," she said.

Glavaš and her fellow award recipients will be honored at an exclusive ceremony at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., on May 19, 2025. The event will feature Ted Koppel, former anchor of ABC’s Nightline, as Master of Ceremonies, and conclude with a gala and a special performance by 16-time Grammy Award winner David Foster and Broadway star Katharine McPhee.

After law school and completion of the Bar Exam, Glavaš plans to travel before beginning her legal career as an associate at the Cleveland office of Jones Day.

The School of Law congratulates Glavaš on this outstanding achievement, which highlights her talent, dedication and the strength of our legal writing program.
