In partnership with alumni-founded Sports Data Labs, Inc. (SD Labs), Case Western Reserve University School of Law recently launched the Athlete Data Lab. CWRU’s Athlete Data Lab will be provided with access and exposure to novel, real-world use cases, while providing guidance on specific legal focus areas through the direct involvement of SD Labs and their partners.

The Lab, which kicked off in the fall 2023 semester, operates under CWRU School of Law’s Spangenberg Center for Law, Technology & the Arts, and is overseen by program director Craig Nard. The Lab is open exclusively to CWRU Law students who will receive course credit for their participation in the program.

The Lab is excited to introduce its new Advisory Committee, which will collaborate closely with Athlete Data Lab students. Advisory Committee members will contribute to discussions on athlete data issues, review literature periodically, provide feedback on lab output and processes and ensure positive engagement for all stakeholders. They will also offer insights on strategy, scope expansion and legal considerations related to athlete data research. Committee members will engage with CWRU Law students through regular meetings, fostering dialogue and participating in discussions, debates and presentations on legal topics concerning athlete data, alongside other advisors, SDL, CWRU Law faculty and students.
