Next week, Case Western Reserve University will celebrate the graduating Class of 2026 at commencement ceremonies. More than just a ceremony, these celebrations are a testament to the hard work, dedication and perseverance of the graduates as they reach this milestone and begin their careers or continue their education. Festivities begin on Wednesday, May 14, with clap out and convocation, followed by the convocation barbecue on Van Horn Field.

As members of the Class of 2026 look ahead to the next chapter, we caught up with Ethan Edwards, a Master of Finance student at Weatherhead School of Management, about his experience at CWRU and his journey thus far.

Answers have been lightly edited for length.

1. What initially drew you to CWRU?

The opportunity to continue my academic journey at a Top 25 University and compete in the best D3 conference in the country. Case Western Reserve would allow me the opportunity to grow my academic and basketball career tremendously, equipping me with the knowledge and tools needed to move forward and succeed in my career/life.

2. What course or campus experience most shaped your education?

All the financial courses helped shape my experience as I was stepping into a new academic background (liberal arts undergrad focus). The first experience (orientation) shaped my experience as it helped me calm my initial nerves and start adjusting to Cleveland and CWRU culture.

3. What is your favorite memory at CWRU?

My favorite memory was seeing my teammates record their career high in points this season. Previously playing against them, I was able to see snippets of their personality and play style… but coming here completely changed my perspective. I am extremely grateful and happy to have seen them achieve personal and university accomplishments, as they deserve it for their hard work and great character.

4. What's next for you after graduation?

Continue my basketball career and playing professionally.

5. What advice would you give students in your program?

Be where your feet are. Remember why you came here and appreciate the experience! There are ups and downs but we all know what we are aiming for. Things may not happen exactly how we want them to but will happen how they are supposed to. Hard work, patience and faith are many of the few things we control in life. Focus on controllables and leave the rest. No such thing as failure, but it’s instead realignment.
