Case Western Reserve University’s Art History Club will host Henry Adams, professor of American art, and acclaimed photographer Abe Frajndlich for a free, public discussion March 21.
The event will be structured as a discussion between Adams, one of Frajndlich's biographers and the author of the introduction to his new book. Images of his work will be shown as the photographer talks about his roots in Cleveland and where the camera took him. Frajndlich will discuss his new book, Penelope’s Hungry Eyes: Portraits of Famous Photographers, and his experience as a photographer at magazines such as Time, Life and Newsweek.
Frajndlich became well known for his photographs in Art News and Vanity Fair, portraying beloved artists such as Dennis Hopper, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Yoko Ono, Ed Ruscha and countless others. His portraits and self portraits represent an aggressive and post-modern shift in the depiction of people and the items that represent them.
Penelope's Hungry Eyes takes a look at the obsessive nature of photographing art's biggest celebrities and mentors. It makes a monumental case for Frajndlich's craft as a fine artist and not just someone who captures images of the well known.
The talk will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in DeGrace Hall 312.
