Applications for 2015-2016 Ethics Table Fellows due May 31

Applications for 2015-2016 Ethics Table Fellows are due by May 31. Eight advanced students, faculty or staff will be selected as fellows, whose aim is to produce a project that will enrich the ethical learning environment of Case Western Reserve University. The projects can be broad or narrow. In the past, faculty, staff and students have worked on a variety of different programs:

• Staff have worked on ethics in their units or produced programs that intersect with student life.
• Administrators have humanized and simplified their rules as they affect everyone, especially students.
• Faculty have developed courses and service learning projects, even an ethics primer for engineers.
• Students have researched and speculated on the deep ethical issues concerning CWRU, such as educational privilege or the legacy of slavery in our society.

The fellows each receive $1,000 at program's end (such as in the form of a stipend or compensation), $500 in book funds and $300 in activity funds to support an event related to their project. The $1,000 is contingent on good attendance throughout the year, and completion and presentation of the project at the year-end symposium. Fellows meet each day the week before school starts in August for a morning seminar. Once the school year begins, fellows meet for dinner once a month from September through April. In May, they put on a public symposium for friends and the community over a day and a half. Those interested in applying should submit a letter of interest that explains their project proposal, how they will complete it in a year, what they think its relevance is to improving the ethical learning environment of CWRU, and their background in ethics, in any.
