Campus Planning and Facilities Management to begin tree planting across campus

During the week of June 1, Case Western Reserve University will begin planting 27 new trees across campus as part of the university’s ongoing efforts to maintain and expand a healthy, sustainable campus tree canopy. The new trees will replace dead and dying trees that were removed during winter maintenance work conducted by Campus Planning and Facilities Management.

The new trees will be planted in several locations across campus, including:

  • Case Quad
  • Mather Quad
  • East Bell Commons
  • North Residential Village
  • Dively Hall
  • Thwing Center
  • Juniper Road

CWRU’s board-certified master arborist and landscape architect selected species that are well-suited for Northeast Ohio’s climate and the unique conditions of an urban campus environment. Planting locations also were carefully chosen by the university’s planning and design team to align with the campus master plan and avoid conflicts with future development projects.

Case Western Reserve University has been certified as a Tree Campus every year since 2017 by the Arbor Day Foundation. To maintain this annual certification, the university manages a diverse Tree Committee led by student interns, who regularly report on campus tree health and maintenance and engage in community tree service projects.
