ideastream: A series of earthquakes in the area last year made big news, especially after they were found to have been a by-product of natural gas drilling. David Zeng, chair of the civil engineering department, said that while fault lines that cause earthquakes are usually located more than 20 miles below ground and those fracking occurs are only one or two miles deep, there is still a possibility of causing an earthquake.
