CWRU introduces online LLM program in international business law

Case Western Reserve University School of Law is adding an online LLM degree in international business law. The LLM is an advanced law degree program, taught entirely in English, designed for students who earned their preceding law degrees outside the United States. This new program will help those lawyers learn to:

• read and understand American case law and statutes;
• research online American legal sources; and
• understand and apply U.S. and international law relating to business transactions.

The online LLM, which can be completed in 16 months, starts in January 2014. Candidates must have a non-U.S. university-level degree in law and demonstrate English proficiency with a TOEFL of 90 or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) of 6.5. Upon completing the program, students receive an LLM degree that can support advancement in private and corporate practice or within judicial or other governmental organizations within their countries. “Understanding business legalities on a global level is critical in today’s world,” said Lawrence E. Mitchell, dean of the law school and Joseph C. Hostetler-Baker & Hostetler Professor of Law. “This online LLM in international business law helps lawyers gain the knowledge and leadership skills to succeed in settings around the world.” Case Western Reserve developed the program for international lawyers who seek a law degree from the United States without having to move there. The program will allow students the flexibility to access courses anytime, anywhere, while maintaining their current careers. Case Western Reserve has offered LLM programs on campus since 1992.
