This past weekend, Dhamakapella competed at Yaadein 2018 at Boston University, where the team placed first. Dhamakapella competed against teams from the University of California, Irvine; University of California, Santa Barbara; University of Massachusetts; and University of Connecticut.
For their victory, the team received a $750 award to be used toward a professionally recorded single and $250 additional cash.
In addition to the team’s first-place finish, Shaunak Roy received the individual awards for “Best Vocal Percussionist” and “Best Arrangement” for the competition set.
Dhamakapella will be competing at the national championships, All-American Awaaz, in Chicago April 21.
