Did You Know: Art in University Circle

Also, through the program, MOCA Cleveland is free for CWRU students. Case Western Reserve University is one of the many institutions in University Circle that make our area a cultural hub. As we welcome new members to our community this month, we will highlight some of the local resources that make our neighborhood thrive. For students, some of the local attractions are available at a free rate through the Free Access Program. Four of Cleveland’s premier art institutions are within a five-minute walk of the Case Western Reserve campus.

Cleveland Museum of Art

Located in the area of University Circle known as Wade Oval (across from Tinkham Veale University Center), the Cleveland Museum of Art has more than 45,000 pieces in 16 departments. As one of the best museums in the U.S., it is also free to visit.

MOCA Cleveland

MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) is recognizable as the towering, reflective, cube-like building located right in the center of Uptown, on the corner of Euclid Avenue and Mayfield Road. It houses rotating exhibits.

Cleveland Institute of Art

Down Euclid Avenue from MOCA is the Cleveland Institute of Art, a neighboring academic institution. Though it serves primarily as an art school, its building also contains free exhibits accessible to the public, as well as various displays of student work, including visual and media art, throughout the year.

Sculpture Center

Just a bit further down Euclid Avenue, on East 123rd Street, is the Sculpture Center, another free local gallery. The center rotates exhibits throughout the year and hosts numerous events, including the upcoming walking tour “The Case for Public Sculpt
