Spectrum News: Peter Whiting, professor in the Department of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences, discussed a new climate report that noted the increase of lake-effect snow, attributing it to warming in the Midwest. “A warmer atmosphere holds more water,” Whiting said, comparing the atmosphere to a sponge. If there’s more water filling that sponge, there will be more to squeeze out, he added.
