Emeriti professor Armando Zubizarreta passes away

Armando F. Zubizarreta, who served on the Case Western Reserve University faculty for 29 years before retiring in 1999 as professor emeritus of Spanish and comparative literature, died April 22. He was 92.
 
A native of Lima, Peru, Zubizarreta went on to become a researcher and a renowned scholar of the work of Miguel de Unamuno, a Spanish essayist, novelist, poet, playwright, philosopher and academic. Throughout his career, Zubizarreta published several books and articles—work that reflected his intellectual curiosity and commitment to sharing knowledge.
 
Zubizarreta's son, Miguel Zubizarreta (CIT '90), will host a memorial gathering July 22 at his home (31214 Lake Road, Bay Village, Ohio), beginning at 3 p.m.
 
He is survived by his wife, Judith (née Simonich); his children, Rosalma, Alfonso (Denia), Miguel (CIT '90) (Denise) and Gabriel (Hannah); nine grandchildren and their partners, a step-grandchild; and a great-grandchild.
