Awards | October 24, 2025 | Story by: Editorial Staff

Clare Rimnac, Distinguished University Professor Emerita in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Case School of Engineering, recently received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Society for Technology in Arthroplasty (ISTA)

Rimnac’s research contributions have been focused in the areas of orthopaedic biomechanics and biomaterials, including implant retrieval analysis, materials characterization, polymer fracture mechanics, and mechanical performance of bone tissues.

“It was truly an honor and a privilege to receive this Lifetime Achievement Award from ISTA,” said Rimnac. “I have been so very fortunate to have had a career full of amazing opportunities to be mentored and educated, to educate and mentor others, and to conduct research to the best of my ability. I am particularly grateful to CWRU. [It] is an outstanding environment for engineers, biologists, and orthopaedic clinicians to collaborate and innovate. We all know that science and engineering is more than a job—it's a passion and a calling to make the world a better, safer, and healthier place to live. I have had the great gift of being able to live my dream as a scientist and engineer and I hope that I have inspired others to live their dream as well."

Rimnac is the first woman to receive this award. She was honored last month during the ISTA’s meeting in Rome.
