LaShanda Korley, Nord Distinguished Assistant Professor of macromolecular science and engineering in the Case School of Engineering, has been selected to attend the 13th Japanese-American Kavli Frontiers of Science symposium.
Korley will present a poster titled “Lessons from Nature: Tuning Mechanics in Polymeric Materials,” and discuss her work investigating ways nature organizes materials into layers or composites of brittle and soft materials then applying the technology to such things as drug delivery devices and smart coatings.
Organizers of the symposium invite outstanding young scientists from the U.S. and Japan to discuss advances and opportunities in a broad range of disciplines. Cutting-edge research topics that will be covered in this symposium include: the aftermath of disasters, artificial cells and tissues by chemistry, potential replacement of rare earths, and personalized medicine, among others.
