Final round of sign ups for 2014 National Youth Sports Program begins May 30

Case Western Reserve University parents and guardians of children ages 10 to 16 can register early for the 2014 National Youth Sports Program (NYSP), a program that provides a combination of athletics and education. NYSP takes place weekdays June 9 to July 11 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with a variety of activities around campus from the playing fields for sports to the classrooms for education programs to work on math, science and language skills. Registration will take place in Adelbert Gym:

• Friday, May 30, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
• Saturday, May 31, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. or
• Sunday, June 1, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Early registration is strongly recommended. Last year, more than 600 children participated, and a large number of attendees are expected again this year. Dennis Harris, NYSP project administrator, requires parents or guardians to bring their children with them to register. Physicals are required to participate. Free physicals will be available at registration. The cost is $65 per child for Cleveland residents, or $155 per child for non-residents. Add $75 to extend a child’s hours in the program until 5:30 p.m. The program offers required swimming classes for all campers and opportunities for basketball, hip-hop and modern dance, track-and-field activities, soccer games, educational workshops and field trips.
