Former faculty member Philip Perdikaris passes away
Philip Perdikaris was born in Athens, GREECE, in 1950 and passed away in Volos, Greece, on August 3, 2026, at the age of 76. His first studies were at Varvakios High School, the best public high school in Athens at the time. He continued his university studies at the National Technical University of Athens, receiving his Diploma of Civil Engineer in 1973. He then moved to the United States for his postgraduate studies at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, from where he received his PhD in 1980.
His academic career began at Case Western Reserve University, where he taught for 17 years, from 1981 until 1998, as a tenured professor. In 1998 he returned to Greece, being elected as full professor at the Polytechnic School of the University of Thessaly, which at the time, was the newly established Department of Civil Engineering. He contributed greatly to the development of the department, having created, developed and directed, until his retirement, the Concrete Technology and Reinforced Concrete Structures Laboratory. He retired from the University of Thessaly in 2017.
Philip was married to Helen Papavasileiou and had two children. His beloved wife passed away in 2019. Philip is leaving behind his sister, Aurelia, his daughter, Theano (husband, Dimitri Panopoulos), his son, Konstantinos, and his grandson, Alexander.
The funeral service was held at Lefkada, in Greece, on Friday, August 7, 2026.
