Free bell concert by CIM students on Friday
Student Guild Premier: Friday, May 15th at 12:15 p.m.
Alisdair Welty & Mohan Jin
Free concert this Friday! During spring semester a group of students has been working hard to learn about the carillon and practice some music. This week, two of them, both students at CIM, will present the first public concert by members of the student guild. Alisdair Welty and Mohan Jin will perform arrangements of music by Bach, Brahms, and Satie as well as carillon works by Barnes, Gerken, and Courter. Meet the guild students after the concert.
The McGaffin Carillon is one of about 200 cast bell carillons in North America and the only one in the city of Cleveland, Ohio. Its 51 bells weigh a total of about 21,000 lbs and are played by a person at a console high in the tower. This unique voice has serenaded University Circle since 1968.
The Carillon is housed in the tower at Church of the Covenant and can be heard throughout University Circle. Free parking for concert attendees in the Euclid Avenue lot in front of the tower at 11205 Euclid Avenue.
