“How Can the College Board’s Advanced Placement Program Inform and Assist Higher Education?”

Cathy Brigham, senior director of academic relations for the College Board’s Advanced Placement (AP) program, will be on campus to provide information and field questions about the involvement of higher education in the AP program. Brigham will present “How Can the College Board’s Advanced Placement Program Inform and Assist Higher Education?” The event will take place Tuesday, Feb. 12, from 10 to 11 a.m. in Crawford Hall, Room A13.

About the lecture

Brigham will describe how the AP curriculum is continually evolving and how some courses have undergone substantive revision over the past few years. These revisions may influence how universities’ transfer policies align to their courses. In addition, some new courses have been added to the AP program for which transfer policies will soon need to be determined. Brigham will also share customized data about AP score-sending patterns to CWRU (how many students send scores, what those scores are and what the demographic information is of those students, etc.). Of particular relevance is the fact that, recently, far more students of color and students from under-resourced communities have been participating in the AP program. She will share strategies for how AP data can be used to recruit students into under-subscribed programs. Brigham also will be available for individual meetings if requested, and will stay after the meeting to discuss opportunities for faculty and advanced graduate students to serve as AP readers.
